WELCOME TO HUSKEMAW OPTICS

Huskemaw Optics was founded out of necessity. Technological advances were being made in the shooting and hunting world, but riflescopes were lagging. The "Huskemaw Advantage" is best described as the most precise, fast and user-friendly system pre-validated in a known environment. The Huskemaw scopes are built to withstand years of use and provide reliable functionality in all field conditions.

HuntSmart Reticle (patent: 8365455) - The design is simple, yet functional used in tandem with the BDC turrets. The same principals apply to all HO scopes models however differences do exist and are explained in detail in this manual. The wind holds with corresponding MOA values are unique to Huskemaw and are patent protected. This key asset is utilized by dialing to a known distance, then holding for wind deflection as indicated on the turret directly above the elevation number. It is as simple as ranging for distance, dial appropriate yardage and hold for wind as applicable.
Customized Huskemaw BDC Turret - This turret is an elevation turret which is calibrated in yards rather than the standard MOA indicator marks. This turret is both simple and precise because it has been validated with actual drop data that has been shot in the field in a known environment. The precision aspect of each turret is proven by utilizing a number of factors to include elevation, temperature, true ballistic coefficient and muzzle velocity. In summary, every turret is laser engraved to match the actual trajectory of an individual rifle and load based on the click value of the scope.
Windage Enabled - As mentioned above, the Huskemaw BDC (bullet drop compensator) turret is the only windage enabled turret in the industry. Huskemaw Optics uses patented wind compensation technology and when applied to the Hunt Smart Reticle becomes a RFBC (Rapid Field Ballistic Compensator) turret. Without question, this is the most reliable, quick and precise tool for wind compensation in a variety of field conditions. Huskemaw Optics has available a DVD “How To Dope The Wind Beyond Belief” that provides many tips, techniques and tools for gaining knowledge to become proficient at long range in wind.
TrueBC / Field Data Collection Process (patent pending) - This program was the first to use an online process for ordering a turret. The process is explained in detail in section 2 of this manual. As a precursor to more detail, the obtainment of actual drop data by shooting in the field in a known environment provides the necessary data for your windage enabled RFBC turret. Suffice to say, Huskemaw will engrave your turret to match the exact ballistic profile of that rifle and load. This creates a turret that is simple, yet precise in a variety of field applications and environments.

WHAT'S THE BEST SCOPE FOR YOU?

We've come a long way from iron sights, but when choosing the right riflescope for your application, here are some things to consider:

Magnification - This is a subjective decision, but some general rules are 10x for distances less than 500 yards and 16x and higher beyond 500 yards. The higher the optical magnification, the more glass and the more glass, the more weight and higher price. Variable power helps with the choice and makes them suitable for many situations and conditions
Size of Objective Lens - The objective lens is the largest and forward most lens and generally, the larger the better because it harnesses more light. However, a larger lens requires higher mounts to keep it off the barrel and may require a higher cheek rest. Once again, larger is heavier, bulkier and more expensive. No sense in getting more than you'll ever use so a balance between size, weight and budget for your application is what you're after.
Reticle - There are many patterns of reticles available with the most common available is the duplex, or a simple crosshair pattern. Mildot is the preferred reticle among tactical shooters due to the ability to range targets. Bullet Drop Compensating reticles make use of grids that can accommodate different ranges without adjustment..
MOA vs. MRAD - Knowing the measurement of the click values of adjustments on the scope is important. MOA or Minute of Angle is approximately one inch every hundred yards. MOA are commonly used with duplex and BDC reticles. MRAD or milradians measure about 3.6 inches every 100 yards and are the unit of measure for Mildot reticles.
Focal Plane - This is the position of the reticle within the scope. The majority of scopes use Second Focal Plane (SFP) reticles, which means when the magnification is changed, the reticle stays the same size. First Focal Plane (FFP) reticles scale up and down with the magnification.
Parallax Correction - Parallax is the movement of the reticle in relation to the target when the shooter moves his/her head. It is an error the is apparent in higher magnification scopes and could result in bad shot placement. There are usually side "focus" adjustments in high-end scopes that can eliminate the parallax.

Today there are many riflescopes available for just about any budget. Premium scopes will cost much more and it's because of higher tolerances, durability, repeatability and additional features, as well as extended warranties. Remember that the scope is one component of effective shooting, but the scope should be mounted properly, sighted accurately and thoroughly understood to add optimal performance to any shooting situation.
